I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

Family and friends are often unable to remain neutral or impartial and may get burned out from listening to your struggles. A mental health professional is able to help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives and listen to you without judgment or expectations.

Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others knowing your business.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective but it, alone, cannot solve all issues. Often times medication is needed in conjunction with counseling to get to the root of the problem. Our work together is designed to help you accomplish your personal goals by uncovering the source of your issues.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

We start with an initial meet and greet session to see if you feel comfortable. Next we go over your personal history and I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs. Our sessions will yield the best results if you come with an open and curious mind along with a willingness to change.

How long will it take?

There is no set time frame for how long therapy will take.. Some people choose to solve one or two problems and then take a break while others benefit from a more consistent, in-depth approach. It's really up to you on how much work is needed and what you are committed to accomplishing.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

Come prepared with what you would like to accomplish during each session. This will help you stay focused on your therapeutic goals and is crucial for your success.
